These pictures were taken on September 10, 2001 from my home in Colfax, CA. Both images have been cropped down from the originals. This first photo is a multiple exposure made by uncovering the lens once every five minutes while the shutter was kept open. The Moon and Saturn progressed together from lower left to upper right. The Moon, not moving quite as quickly across the sky, overtook Saturn between the fouth and fifth exposure (though Saturn is too close to the Moon to be seen in the fourth exposure).

This second picture was taken through my 4-1/2 inch Newtonian telescope. Here, Saturn had reappeared from behind the Moon's dark half.
