This picture was taken on Februrary 10, 2003 from Colfax, CA. Comet NEAT (C/2002 V1) was quite dim, being just barely visible in my 7X35 binoculars. With the sky still aglow with evening twilight, I couldn't see the comet in my camera's viewfinder at all. However, I was able to use a finder chart to aim the camera properly. The trick with a photo like this is to keep the exposure long enough to get the comet, but no so long that the sky glow washes it out. Fortunately, I was successful this time.
