This is my pond. The umbrella is sitting in a pvc pipe (1-1/4") sunk into the planter.
Shade for pond
I filled a 5 gallon bucket with rocks and sand and put in a pvc pipe large enough to hold
the umbrella (1-1/4"). The pvc pipe is capped at the bottom end so that the
umbrella stick goes all the way to the bottom. The idea here is that I could put the
bucket in my swimming pool and provide shade for me and the kid. The metal stands do
not work with either swimming pool or fish pond because the metal rusts and causes
problems. With this setup you can put the umbrella in the middle of a large fish
pond for shade. DO NOT USE CEMENT, IT CAN KILL THE FISH. You might need to
lower the umbrella if it is windy.
